Line over Point Stationing - How-To

  • Updated

Purpose of Line over Point Stationing

This stationing method is very similar to "Reference Line" stationing, but it can be accomplished by having the total station represent the starting 0.0 coordinate of your project's coordinate system. Please see this link for more information on reference line stationing, which explains this stationing process even deeper.

Note that you need to have a blank project as your active project in order to use this stationing method. The intention is that after stationing, you will begin performing line layout as your application. See this link to learn more about line layout.

How-to Step 1:

Open the Line over Point stationing process from the home screen stationing menu:

How-To Step 2: Set up your Tool on your Desired Start Point

Ensure your total station is located over the point you want to represent 0,0 of your project, and press the green check mark:

How-To Step 3: Measure your Second Point

Press either "measure distance and Angle" or "measure angle." Both options are described below:

Measure Distance + Angle:

Click the red triangles on the far right side to measure both angle and distance.

It will indicate a BL1 point, which "northern" location shows how far of a distance you measured. Notice that you are establishing the coordinate system of your project.

Measure Angle Only:

Press the 3 red triangles on the right with the angle icon to establish only the angle or orientation of your head unit.

The angle at which it measures will be determined to be the "north" direction of your project.

How-To Step 4: Set Station Height (optional)

Proceed to set station height. See this article for more information on how to do so. Turn heights off in settings if heights are not pertinent.

For questions about line shift, please see the reference line stationing article, where it speaks to this.
