Due to new EU cybersecurity regulations, the PLC tablets require a windows password during initial setup.
As of August 2025, a new EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) update comes into force. This regulation applies to all devices with integrated radio modules — including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth — such as the PLC tablet. The directive introduces mandatory cybersecurity requirements for manufacturers.
Among other things, it requires that:
Devices must be protected against unauthorized access
Devices must receive regular security updates
Default or known passwords must not be used — each device must have a unique, user-defined password that is not known to the manufacturer and cannot be guessed.
Because of this, tablets now initially require a windows password be established during the initial start up, ensuring the device is protected with accordance to EU cybersecurity standards.
Can the password for the tablet be left blank?
Technically, yes - but this is not recommended. It leaves risk of data being taken from the tablet without a user's knowledge.
