"Sketch" Application - How-To

The application, "Sketch" is designed to allow you to draw on your CAD drawing to update or create any linework that you may need for reference.

Step 1: Select a Start Point

When opening "Sketch," you will be asked to select the "start point" from which you want to start working. Note that you will always to have some sort of point (either a layout point, measured point, or control point) from which you begin your sketch work.

You do not necessarily need a CAD file to begin sketching, but you do need a point within your job in order to begin.

Once you select a point, verify that the start point name and coordinate is correct, and that the "line points" you intend to create are labeled the way you intend as you sketch. In the example below, my line point name is "LP5," and as I draw more lines in succession, the point number will subsequently also increase, while the prefix will remain the same.

Step 2: Begin Sketching

Navigate to the "Sketch" tab and begin sketching.

"Distance" is the distance you would like the next line to travel from the point you started from, and "angle" is the angle at which you would like it to turn from that point. Note, 0° is going to face directly up (plan north).

You can also use the left and right arrows to conveniently turn the angle exactly 45° from whatever the orientation the line is facing.

"Set Orientation" can be used if you would like to orient the line to the exact angle of an existing line in your CAD file or the orientation of 2 points within your job.

Step 3: Continue your Sketch

Press the green check mark whenever you know that your sketched line segment is correct. Once completed, you will automatically be prompted to sketch another line from the end of the one you just created.

If you would like to sketch a line from another start point instead, simply go back, and select a new start point.
