Area Application - How to

  • Updated

This article is about how to measure the area between points within the CAD file displayed.

How to Measure the Area Between a Set of Points?

  1. Open Your Project: Start by opening any project on your tablet.
  2. Open Application: Either from the home screen or from the side menu in CAD view.
    1. If you do not have the 'Area Application' in the home screen, select add shortcut and add the application shown below.
  3. Select Points Around Relevant Area and Measure: Follow the prompts to get your output.

Select points, The points you select should turn red and red lines should appear between them to show what area will be measured. Make sure to click on the points in the correct order you want them to be included in and keep selecting them until you have the area you want to measure. If you want to remove a point from the selection just click on it again. Once you have the area selected the corresponded measurements will appear on the upper right hand side.

Once done with measuring the selected area or if you wish to restart the selection process, click on the green check point.

Understanding the Output

Once you have clicked on all the points to measure the intended area (at least three), you will see the relevant measures on the output on the right including the perimeter in m and km, the area in meters squared and the number of points you have selected.

If you wish to measure the volume of the selected area, you can also enter the specific heigh in the box on the right hand side under "Volume". Once you have entered a number, the volume measure should appear below this.

Live Measurements For the Area Application

On the upper right hand side of your output panel you also see an option to turn live measurements on or off. In the default mode this setting is off and you do not need to station your tool to use. If you want to turn this mode on you will have to first do the stationing setup

Live Measurements mean that you can use the point that your total station is locked into as one of the points in your area. This is convenient in case you wish to measure areas as you move around with the prism or if you need to change a point's location in real time. To update your measurements (after for example changing location, you can click on the three red triangles on the right hand side).
