The Create Offset Entity Application allows you to quickly create offsets of lines, circles, and arcs. This is useful for example, to create inner wall boundaries from the outer wall or to indicate drywall track lines. This helps maintain dimensional consistency when working with lines.
How to Use the Offset Entity
- Open Your Project: Start by opening any project on your tablet.
- Open Application: Either from the home screen or from the side menu in CAD view.
- If you do not have the 'Create Offset Entity' in the home screen, you can select add shortcut and add the application shown below, or navigate to it from the navigation menu.
- Select an Object: Select the lines, arcs, or circles you want to work with and the working menu should appear for you to define your offset.
Object Creation
Select the object from which you want to create an offset duplicate. A red duplicate should appear somewhere to the right of it. On the upper right hand side you can find and change the offset distance. In the example below this is .3 m. This means that the new created line will be .3 meters to the right of the original line. To create an offset line to the left, you can just click on the original line a second time and the red line will shift to your chosen offset distance to the left of the original. If you click on the line a third time, the offset line will disappear.
Note - if it is helpful, you can add a negative value to the offset to have the offset immediately begin on the left of your object, if needed.
If you want to create more offset objects with the same offset parameter, simply click on them and the new objects should appear in red. Once you have created all the objects you need, click on the green checkmark to the right. These objects will turn grey and will now be added to your file.
Creating an object in between two lines
There is also a feature where you can create a line in the center of two parallel lines. First select the parallel line option to the right of the offset distance. The "Offset" box should be disabled when you do so. Next, select your first line which should turn red upon selection. Next, select the second line. A dotted red line should appear in the middle of the two. Click on the green checkmark on the right hand side and this new line will be added to your drawing.
Note: these lines must be parallel in the CAD file for this option to be used.
