Firmware 4.0.471 for the PLT 400 introduces important improvements to help ensure more reliable calibration, stable measurements, and consistent results on the jobsite.
This update is based on real end-user feedback and field observations and is recommended for all users. Please see this article for help in updating your tool.
Firmware Improvements
1. Tilt Calibration & Tilt-Sensor More Reliable
What you may have experienced before:
- Calibration failing with messages like:
- Multiple failed attempts, even on a stable setup
- Frustration with heights drifting or reading inconsistently over time
What’s improved:
- The PLT 400 now performs tilt calibration more accurately and consistently
- The system is better at recognizing when the tool is actually stable
- The tilt-sensor reference plane for heights has been stabilized
Impact:
- Less downtime due to tilt errors
- Less re-measuring to verify height values
2. Automatic Calibration Parameter Check
With the new firmware, you may occasionally see a message or workflow related to calibration recovery or recalibration when using your PLT 400:
This is a normal system safeguard designed to ensure your tool continues to deliver accurate results.
With this new safeguard in place, you can be assured that your tool always understands:
- What is "level,"
- How "horizontal" and "vertical" angles are defined, and
- How to calculate accurate heights
Why would this Message Appear?
The sensors that calculate these values rely on internal calibration parameters that were set during production. In rare situations, the tool may detect that:
- These parameters are missing, or,
- They may not be fully reliable
In the past, you would need to send the tool in for repair to restore the values.
Now, the system automatically will prompt you to run a specific calibration process (~5 minutes) to restore those values without you needing to send the tool to repair.
Impact:
- Ensured Accuracy and Peace of mind
- Reduced down time
- Transparency
