How to Connect to Bluetooth with your PLT Head Unit

For the PLT 400, it is possible to use a Bluetooth connection instead of Wi-Fi when communicating with the total station. This allows the device to be controlled from a greater distance, making it useful when working over larger areas. Note: the PLT 300 does not offer this option.

Bluetooth connectivity is also available for the POS 150 and POS 180. However, for the POA 150 and 180, please see this article on how to connect the POA 116 radio bridge.

One of the main advantages of Bluetooth is the increased operating range between the tablet and the total station. The trade-off is that a live camera feed is not available while using Bluetooth mode. Instead, camera controls are replaced with a remote joystick interface that allows you to navigate and control the instrument.

To use Bluetooth with the PLT 400, a POA 68 Bluetooth extender is required. This accessory may not be available in all regions, so contact your sales representative for availability information.

After connecting the POA 68 to the total station, HCL will display a message confirming that the Bluetooth extender has been detected. Click OK to continue and allow HCL a moment to update the connection status.

Next, open Settings (1.) and navigate to Tool and Connection Settings (2.). Change the Connection Type to Radio (3.). HCL will then establish communication with the total station using the Bluetooth extender.
