Automatic Calibration Parameter Check

Explanation of Calibration Parameter Check

The Automatic Calibration Parameter Check is a feature within the HCL software related to calibration recovery or recalibration when using your PLT 400:

This is a normal system safeguard designed to ensure your tool continues to deliver accurate results.

With this new safeguard in place, you can be assured that your tool always understands:
  • What is "level,"
  • How "horizontal" and "vertical" angles are defined, and
  • How to calculate accurate heights

Why would this Message Appear?

The sensors that calculate these values rely on internal calibration parameters that were set during production. In rare situations, the tool may detect that:
  • These parameters are missing, or,
  • They may no longer be fully reliable
In the past, you would need to send the tool in for repair to restore the values.

Now, the system automatically will prompt you to run a specific calibration process (~5 minutes) to restore those values without you needing to send the tool to repair.

Impact:
  • Ensured Accuracy and Peace of mind
  • Reduced down time
  • Transparency

Please follow the guided workflows to complete the process:

1 - You may see a message indicating an "internal tool problem" that suggests a firmware update (with a subsequent calibration parameter check) should resolve. Press "update."

Please see this article if you need assistance with updating your firmware. Internet connection will be required if you have not yet downloaded the firmware update package yet.

2 - After the firmware has been updated on the tool, you will see the image to start the preparation for a calibration parameter check. It could take approximately 10 minutes to complete the full process.

3 - Follow the prompts on the screen, that may differ depending on the way your tool is set up. Generally, you will need to do the following:

  • Place the tool on a stable base, with minimized vibrations - the software will indicate when the required vibration levels are acceptable.
    • Note: a "yellow triangle" on this step indicates that vibrations, though noticeably prevalent, are not significantly strong enough to impact the calibration procedure. This message appears to simply keep you aware of potential impact on future set ups.
  • Incline the tool by 2.25-3.6° - the software will indicate when the required inclination is reached via visual aids.
    • Note: a "yellow triangle" on this step indicates that the inclination is sufficient enough to begin the process. "Green" simply indicates the optimal angled position.

4 - Allow the tool to run the calibration by pressing "Start Calibration." Once it is completed, you will get notified, as in the image below. You will also be prompted to turn off your tool and restart before continuing work.
