Measure and Record - How to Use

  • Updated

The Purpose of Measure and Record

To use “Measure and Record,” you first need to be stationed (i.e. the tool needs to know the coordinates it is located at on your jobsite). Please make sure you station your tool before attempting to use “Measure and Record.”

This application is designed to measure exact locations of points as they exist on the jobsite. Common applications for Measure and Record are to perform quality checks of objects already installed, or, to record new control points that have just been secured throughout the jobsite.

Measuring in Data is Very Simple

When you are ready to measure in jobsite locations to save them in your project, simply press the red measure button on the right side of the screen.

The data menu can be used to help you determine how your data gets saved:

You can choose the name of the point you are measuring in, as well as the layer that it should be displayed on.

You can determine if the point you are measuring should only be saved as a measured point, or if it should also be saved as a control point that you intend to use for stationing of the tool in the future.

If you are attempting to complete an edge or corner measurement (such as the exact corner of a concrete building), you can use the corner measurement option to help you accurately measure in the corner. This is typically completed in laser measurement mode.

Begin by taking a distance measurement at a short distance from the edge. Next, sight accurately on the edge with the crosshairs and save the measurement. When you save these data, the distance from the preceding position and the angle from the current position are used for calculating the coordinates.

This function is used for measuring edges accurately, because under certain circumstances direct measurement might not be possible, or can result in errors.

You can determine if the measured points you make should be connected with a line, and whether that line needs dimension data appearing above it in your CAD view. Note that the dimension data will only be seen temporarily, and is not saved within the CAD data. You can always bring it back by going to the dimension application.

How Measured Points Appear in your Point Menu

After a point is measured, it will appear as a square icon in your point list, as well as on your CAD view. If you measured the point in as a control point, it will also appear as a triangle.

If you need to edit the point attributes of any of your points, you must do so separately in the "edit points" menu. Please see this article for more information.
